Ferdinand "Ferd" D. Ekelund, 91, of Superior, went to be with his Lord, Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Golden Living Center, Superior.
Ferdinand "Ferd" D. Ekelund, 91, of Superior, went to be with his Lord, Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Golden Living Center, Superior.
He was born June 9, 1921 in Foxboro, son of Ferdinand and Anna (Nisater) Ekelund.
Ferdinand proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy.
Following his military service, he settled in New Hampshire and moved back to Wisconsin in 1998.
For most of his life, Ferd worked as a heavy equipment operator.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Stanley and Norman Ekelund; and sister, Norma Bayard.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, Superior; son, Dan (Pauline) Ekelund; grandson Eric (Cheryl) Ekelund; and great-granddaughter, Shealynn, all of Rhode Island; step-daughter, Brenda (John) Jylha, Virginia, Minn.; and brother, Irving (Shirley) Ekelund, Scottsdale, Ariz..
Visitation will from 10 until the 11 a.m. service, Friday, Jan. 4 at Darrow Road Wesleyan Church, Superior. Military rites will be accorded at the church by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post No. 435.
The committal prayers will be at the Summit Cemetery, Summit Township, following the luncheon at the church.
Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, is assisting the family with arrangements.
