Delbert “Del” Carlson, 92, lifelong Poplar resident died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, in his home, surrounded by his family.
Delbert “Del” Carlson, 92, lifelong Poplar resident died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, in his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born April 12, 1920, in Poplar, to Axel and Hedwig (Nelson) Carlson.
Del grew up on a farm in Poplar where he learned to love the earth and soil.
He married Inez Knudson on June 23, 1945, in Duluth and celebrated 67 years of marriage before she passed away April 16, 2012.
Del was employed as a heavy equipment operator for McClean Construction.
He was a longtime member of Mission Covenant Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved deer hunting and enjoyed, as he expressed it, “a quiet life.”
Del is survived by three daughters, Beverly Jensen, Superior, Janice (David) Stack, Superior, Delores (Danny) Thormodsgard, Poplar; one son, Denis Carlson, Barron, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Todd (Raeann Hamlin) Stack, Angela (Ahmed) Maamoun, Rachel (Mike Leland) Stack, Christopher (Staci) Stack, Heidi (Steve) Karshbaum, Tyrel (Carly) Botten, Orrin Botten; two step-grandsons, Daryl Thormodsgard and Dwayne (Jessica) Thormodsgard; six great-grandchildren, Meradith, Madison, Teagen, Ella Mae, Joseph and Alyson; six step-great-grandchildren, Ali, Rawia, Charlotte, Conner, Alaris and Jade; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife Inez, Del is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Aleda Carlson and a brother, Albin Carlson.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service on Thursday, Dec. 27 at Mission Covenant Church with Pastor Darrell Nelson officiating.
Burial will be in Poplar Cemetery.
Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Mission Covenant Church Building Fund.
