Peter Machones

Peter Machones, 74, died peacefully on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012.

He was a lifelong resident of Superior, born to Michael and Mary Machones Jan. 28, 1938.

After graduating from Superior East High School he joined the Navy. After his tour in the Navy he came back to Allouez and spent most of his working life as a carman on the Chicago Northwestern Railway. Pete was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors. He was a very kind and generous person.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings, Ann Schuster, Agnes Hanna, Louise Van Landschoot, Michael Machones, Cecilia Gucinski, Sister Michelle (Helen) Machones, Antoinette Mertes, Anthony Machones and Veronica Machones.

Peter is survived by two sisters Rose Marie Ryan of Rolla, Mo. and Theresa Travnikar of North Branch, Mich., along with many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Peter's family, friends, healthcare and other professionals that helped him during this final stage of his journey.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the 1:30 p.m. memorial service on Saturday, Dec. 15 in Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth. Services entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota (218) 624-5200.

While I am not able to get to the memorial service for Pete, I would like to express my sympathy to the family and friends of Pete. I grew up in Allouez with the Machones family, at least one of which was in my class in grade school. I will remember Pete and all of the family in prayer. - Fr. Leon Flaherty
