Louise Joan Gagnon, R.N., 88, died at the New Mexico State Veterans Home in Truth or Consequences, N.M. on Dec. 2, 2012.
Joan was born in Solon Springs on March 8, 1924 to Louis E. and Josephine (Baker) Gagnon.
Louise graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital Nursing School in Elgin, Ill. and served several years in the Army Nurse Corps including service during the Korean War. Louise was a recipient of the Army Occupational Medal, Korean Service Medal with 5/Bronze Service Stars, the UN Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. She retired from active duty in 1962. She continued her nursing career and was a member of the Catholic Church, enjoyed reading, listening to music and watching TV.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Josephine Gagnon; brothers, Hal, Charles, Edward, Omer, Philip, John and Robert; and three sisters, Ethel, Ann and Cecile.
She is survived by a sister, Catherine Swanberg (Frank) of Solon Springs and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation will take place and a memorial celebration service will be held at the New Mexico State Veterans Home in Truth or Consequences, N.M. on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Don Hyatt, CSB officiating. A committal service and inurnment will be held in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in St. Paul, Minn. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 2 p.m.
