George Harland Leggate, 91, of Kathleen, Ga. died on Nov. 3, 2012.

He was born in Superior and graduated from Superior State College. He married the late Lois (Coleman) also of Superior. Like many men of the "Greatest Generation" he left school to fight in World War II. He was a bomber pilot who was shot down over Germany and sent to a prison of war camp. During the Korean War he was called back into the Air Force where he remained until retirement. He traveled extensively, and never stopped enjoying learning about different countries. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and learned to scuba-dive after he retired.

He was survived by two children Patricia and Jay, one grandson, Danny, and his brother Walter and sister-in-law Marilou Leggate of Superior. His body has been cremated and his ashes will be scattered in the spring.
