Lester V. Serre, 85, South Range resident, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.

Lester V. Serre, 85, South Range resident, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.

He was born on April 24, 1927, in Milwaukee, Wis. to Lester J. and Bessie (Gray) Serre.

Lester served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.

He married Geraldine "Gerry" Jones on May 12, 1951, in Cloquet, Minn. and celebrated 61 years of marriage.

He was employed as a piledriver at Edward E. Gillan Construction in Milwaukee for over 40 years until his retirement.

Lester was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Superior. He also was a member of the Superior Elk's Lodge 403, Knights of Columbus 499 and was a member of the Elk's Lodge and Knights of Columbus while in Waukesha. He was a former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waukesha, Wis. where he ushered over 28 years and the Milwaukee Carpenters Union for over 50 years.

He enjoyed bowling and was a league member of the Bowling Association in Waukesha, Wis.

Lester is survived by his wife, Geraldine "Gerry", three daughters, RoseMarie (Russ) Koth, Slinger, Wis., Dorothy Mae (Jeff) Lentz, Maple, Wis. and Marjorie Beth (Jim) Stuart, Delafield, Wis.; one son, Lester J. Serre, Fairchild, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Nicole (Bryon) Nelson, Philip J. (Julie) Koth and Valerie L. Koth, Devrey Reimer, Stephen C. (Jessica) Koth, Andrew J. (Bianca) Koth and Danielle (Troy) Strong and ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Joanne (Bob) Sterzinger, St. Cloud, Minn.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lois, Betty and Cleo and brother James "Jerry" Serre.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, at St. Anthony Catholic Church and continue until the 12 p.m. Noon Mass of Christian burial with Rev. Leon Flaherty as celebrant.

Pallbearers for the service will be Lester's grandchildren and Tom and Jerry Peterman will be recognized as honorary pallbearers.

Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
