Audrey C. Backlund, 78, of Superior, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Essentia-St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.
Audrey C. Backlund, 78, of Superior, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Essentia-St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.
Audrey was born in Superior on Jan. 29, 1934, the daughter of Dorothy and Oscar Rygg.
She worked as a Teacher's Aide at the elementary schools in the Superior School District for many years.
Audrey was always active. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Superior Chapter 795. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, doing puzzles, reading and being on the computer. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Marvin; a sister, Mary; and great-nephews, Michael and Jonathan.
Audrey is survived by her two daughters, Debra Kurtz and Vicki (Rickie Anderson) Hewitt all of Superior; grandchildren, Shelby Kurtz and Kassie Hewitt; great-grandchildren, Payge and Payton; a brother, Larry (Janice) Rygg; a sister, Marjo (Lawrence) Mencel; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service Friday, Nov. 9, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Rev. Sarah Kerkes will officiate. Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of her birthday club, Mary Ann Archambault, Sally Paine, Ruth Hofacre, Helen Gudowski, Judy Cochrane, Mary Jo Lee and Annie Hill.
