Leone B. Lach, 86, lifelong Superior resident, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 at Lakeshore Assisted Living/Memory Care in Duluth.
Leone B. Lach, 86, lifelong Superior resident, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 at Lakeshore Assisted Living/Memory Care in Duluth.
She was born on Sept. 24, 1926 in Superior to Andrew and Victoria (Zegarowicz) Sislo.
Leone graduated from the former Superior Central High School. She then went on to pursue her degree in education from the State Teachers College in Superior. After her graduation, she moved to Onaway, Mich. where she began her teaching career. Several years later she moved back to Superior and began teaching in the Duluth Public Schools until her retirement in 1989 after 31 years in many Duluth Schools.
Leone married Walter E. Lach on Oct. 27, 1956. She interrupted her teaching for several years to raise her children. When she returned to teaching, she also was employed for a few years in the evenings at Target as their head cashier.
Leone was dedicated to her family and home. She loved gardening, picking mushrooms, blueberries and strawberries, playing cards with family and friends and fishing when she was younger. She loved to travel, especially each summer with Walt and the kids.
Leone was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church. She enjoyed volunteering at the church, helping with church dinners, working with the church ladies, getting out the bulletins, and watering and care of the plants in the church and rectory.
Leone is survived by one son, Thomas (Debbie) Lach, South Range; two daughters, Margaret (Bill) Wilson, Duluth and Julie (Larry) Kotek, New Prague, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Matt, Tim and Katie Lach, Bill and Tony Wilson, and Elisa, Eva and Carter Johnson; one brother, Jerry (Vernetta) Sislo, St. Germaine, Wis. and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Walter; her parents; brothers Alex, Ed, Bill, Frank, John, Ray, George and Bob; sisters Margaret, Florence, Grace and Agnes and granddaughter Abigail Johnson.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1 at the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior with a scripture service to be held at 6:30 p.m..
Visitation will resume at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church at 10 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 2 and continue until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial with Rev. Leon Flaherty as celebrant.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Superior.
Pallbearers for the service will be Matt and Tim Lach, Bill and Tony Wilson, Jim Bratek and Jack Sislo.
The family would like to express their appreciation to all of her caregivers at Lakeshore, Dr. Mark Plachta and Lisa, and St. Luke's Hospice.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Leone's name to Cathedral School.

I have fond memories of Walter,Leone and their children visiting our family in Chicago as i was growing up. Leone was a very kind woman and I last saw her for lunch in the late 1990s when I visited Superior. My deepest sympathy to Tom Margaret and Julie.Naperville, IL 11/08/2012 12:17 PM
