James A. Sigfrids

James A. Sigfrids, 83, of Superior, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at Encompass Health Care in Superior.

James was born in Superior on Sept. 6, 1929, the son of Andrew and Elna Sigfrids.

He married Carole Kenville on July 11th 1953, and the celebrated 59 years of marriage together.

James served is country in the United States Army and was in the 146th Battalion which was part of the 1st guided missile brigade that later became NASA.

He was a member of the Superior City Council for 16 years and served as President. He was a member of the Superior Housing Authority, the Old Firehouse and Police Museum, the Board of Adjustment and a Volunteer on the Planning Commission for many years. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge 606, Club of Printing House Craftsman, Head of the Lakes Maritime Society, North End Neighborhood Organization and the Head of the Lakes Fair.

James enjoyed sailing on the Great Lakes and had achieved his maritime pilot's license as a 3rd Mate. He played softball with his kids until he was 73. He was an avid Green Bay Packer Fan and Milwaukee Brewers fan and had traveled to many games. He loved traveling to watch his kids and grandkids play sports no matter where they were. He was a "Jack of all Trades."

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John; and a sister, Nancy.

James is survived by his wife Carole; his children, James (Jane) Sigfrids of Superior, Judy (Corky) Rindal of Superior, David Sigfrids, Sr. of Superior and Jode (Brock) Anderson of Littleton, Colo.; grandchildren, Jason, Dave Jr., Andrew, Joi, Dylan, Natalee and Brody; step-grandchildren, Jaime, Nikki and Karrianne; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Bradley, Auston, Blake and Jamison; and a brother, William.

Visitation will be held on Thurs., Oct. 25 from 5-7 p.m.and will continue on Friday Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Rev. Sarah Kerkes of Our Saviors Lutheran church will officiate.

Downs Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dave, Mrs. Sigfrid and family, I am thinking of you at this time of loss. From the above messages it sounds like your Dad/Husband made quite a contribution to society and made a positive impact on a multitude of people. Take good care of yourselves at this time. JoEllen Nelson

I often think about him coming with Jode to pick my sister and myself up for school every day for a whole year just for to be nice. In those cold Superior winters, it was appreciated. I honestly still recall that fondly along with his great big car. Thank you.

Dave my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. So sorry to here of the loss of your Dad. He was an exceptional man and will be missed by all that new him. Superior has lost one of the finest men I had the honor to get to know through my parents he always had a positive way of looking at things and a motivating way of getting things done!
