LeRoy O. Wiesner Sr., 86, of Hayward, Wis. and formerly of Wausau, Wis. passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at Water's Edge Care Center in Hayward, Wis.

LeRoy O. Wiesner Sr., 86, of Hayward, Wis. and formerly of Wausau, Wis. passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at Water's Edge Care Center in Hayward, Wis.

LeRoy Oscar Wiesner was born June 24, 1926, in Wausau, Wis. the son of Oscar and Margaret (Otto) Wiesner. Lee grew up in the Wausau area and attended Wausau Senior High until volunteering for the United States Navy on May 13, 1944. Lee served during WWII and was stationed on the USS Clay where he earned the American Area Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with three stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two stars. Lee was honorably discharged on June 13, 1946. Upon returning to Wausau, he started working in the printing department of Wausau Insurance. On August 2, 1947, Lee was joined in marriage to Ruth J. Detert in Wausau. Continuing his employment at Wausau Insurance he was promoted to Home Office Claims, eventually being promoted to Home Office Claims Supervisor and was finally promoted to Department Head of Reinsurance. Lee retired from Wausau Insurance with over 40 years with the company in 1988. In 2007, Lee and Ruth moved to Hayward, Wis. Lee was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Wausau and the Wausau American Legion Post. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in the outdoors at his lake cottages. Lee will be remembered as a kind and reserved individual who loved his family.

Lee is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth; son, Lee (Sue) Wiesner Jr. of Barnes, Wis.; two granddaughters, Sarah (Greg) Nelson of Poplar, Wis., Jamie (Alan) Nord of Centerville, Minn.; five great grandchildren, Harrison, Bennett, Finley, Everett and Adelyn; one sister, Sally Yolitz of Eau Claire, Wis.; and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service celebrating Lee's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, at Anderson-Nathan-Koerpel Funeral Home with Rev. Jon Hartman officiating. Music will be provided by Yonsey Karasek. A time of gathering with the family will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be October 29 at 10:30 a.m., in Restlawn Memorial Park in Wausau, Wis.. Military honors will be accorded by the Wisconsin Military Funeral Honors team.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Water's Edge Health Care Center or Alzheimer's Association.
