Rudolph “Rudy” LaJoie, 71, longtime Superior resident, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth. He died following a brief illness surrounded by his family on what would have been his 49th wedding anniversary.
Rudolph “Rudy” LaJoie, 71, longtime Superior resident, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth. He died following a brief illness surrounded by his family on what would have been his 49th wedding anniversary.
He was born on Sept. 6, 1941 in Superior to Dewey and Jeanette (Boutin) LaJoie.
Rudy graduated from Cathedral High School in 1959.
He married Louise Anderson on Sept. 28, 1963. Rudy was employed as a sanitation engineer (garbologist) and a heavy equipment operator with the City of Superior retiring after 35 years of service.
He was a member of Holy Assumption Catholic Church, the Superior Moose Lodge No. 606 and the Douglas County Fish and Game League. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, golfing and four-wheeling.
He enjoyed bowling on various teams at the Village Bowl. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Brewers and was a “Golden Glove” boxer as a young man. He pitched for the Vacationland Baseball League and went on to try out for the Milwaukee Braves.
Rudy’s greatest pleasure was spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandson Michael.
In addition to his wife Louise, Rudy is survived by one daughter, Susan (Bob) Willette, Lake Nebagamon; one son Kevin (Sandy) LaJoie, Superior; one grandson, Michael LaJoie; four sisters, Beverly DeGraef, Superior, Donna Dodge, Proctor, Pat Marshall, Superior, Judy (Dick) Coda, Maple; one brother, Bob (Babe) LaJoie, Superior and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Walter, Wallace, Dewey and Richard and one sister, Marcella Wood.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home with a scripture Service scheduled for 6:30 p.m. that evening. Visitation will continue on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 12 Noon until the 12:30 p.m. memorial Mass at Holy Assumption Catholic Church with Rev. Ronald Olson, as celebrant.
Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Ray Christianson, Dick Christman, Ralph Law, Ed Krawza and his grandson, Michael.
