Dorothy M. Janigo, Maas, Williams, 87, died Aug. 8, 2012 at the Laramie Care Center, in Laramie, Wyo.

She was born Oct. 13, 1924, in Ashland, Wis. to Veronica and John Janigo. She was the youngest of eight children in her family.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Maas and Jack Williams; brothers Joseph, John, Thomas and Michael; sisters Catherine and Ann and her parents, Veronica and John Janigo.

Dorothy is survived by her four children and their spouses, Thomas (Wendy) Maas, Lake Nebagamon, Gerry (Peachie) Maas, Laramie, Wyo., Rick (Renee) Maas, Minneapolis, Minn. and Lissa (Eric Ostly), Los Gatos, Calif.; six grandchildren, Darren Maas, Justin Maas, Michael Maas, Lindsey Maas, Ellen Ostly and Ayrton Ostly; five great-grandchildren, Jake Smith, Brady, Jessie, McKenzie and Henry Maas. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Sajdak of Anchorage, Alaska.

Dorothy married Carl Maas on Jan. 30, 1943. Carl died in 1952. She married Jack C. Williams on Oct. 13, 1956. Jack died in 2001.

Dorothy was fortunate to have an extended family in the Janigo's and Maas's which provided much needed support shortly after her first husband Carl died in 1952. After his death in Muscatine, Iowa, she returned to live with her mother near Sanborn, Wis. At that time she had three boys ages seven, five and less that one year of age.

Dorothy completed her first two years of college at Ashland County Normal. She then moved to Superior, Wis. where she completed her four year college degree at Superior State Teachers College (University of Wisconsin-Superior). She entered the teaching profession. She was an excellent elementary teacher and was very caring for the children in her classes. She obtained an advanced degree and was one of the first certified elementary guidance counselors in Wisconsin. She taught in the Proctor Minnesota school district, Basic Education at Wisconsin Indian Head Institute Rice Lake Campus and retired from the Rice Lake school system as an elementary counselor.

Dorothy will be remembered for her depth of knowledge and opinion on political issues. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and volunteered with the local humane society. She will be missed by those who knew her.

Graveside service will be Saturday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. at St. Agnes Cemetery in Ashland, Wis.
