Doris Alvina Fields, 88, of Superior, with family at her side, passed away on Saturday Aug. 25, 2012, at Golden Living Center.
Doris Alvina Fields, 88, of Superior, with family at her side, passed away on Saturday Aug. 25, 2012, at Golden Living Center.
Doris was born Oct. 30, 1923, in Superior to Alma and Anton Gunnerson.
She graduated from Superior's Central High School in 1941. During World War II Doris worked in Oakland, Calif., where she met William C. Fields, a United States Marine. They were married in 1945.
After the war they moved to his home state of South Carolina and started a family in Greenville. In Dec. 1956, after the death of a 2 year old son, Charles, she returned permanently to Superior along with her husband and four children.
She enjoyed gardening and letter writing. Doris was a long time member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Doris was widowed in 1985. In addition to her parents and son Charles, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Edith Markon and Dorothy Sandgren and a brother Einar Gunnerson.
She is survived by brothers, Ervin Gunnerson and Allan Gunnerson along with her sons, David, James, Daniel and Jonathan Fields; her daughters, Edith (Scott) Fox and Shirley (Paul) Heckman; granddaughters, Caitlyn and Katrina; and great-grandchildren Dylan and Taylor.
Her funeral service will be on Wednesday Aug. 29, at 11 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Rev. Sarah Kerkes will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be, William, James, Daniel and Jonathan Fields, Paul Heckman, Scott Fox. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Dennis, Daniel and Jeff Markon.
Downs Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
