Susan Markee, 59, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died at her residence Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Susan Markee, 59, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died at her residence Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on Feb. 22, 1953, in Faribault, Minn. to Walter and Maureen (Biesemeier) Nelson, Jr.
She married Thomas Markee on Oct. 9, 1971, in Mellen, Wis. and celebrated 40 years of marriage.
Susan was employed as a special education para professional at Cooper School in the Superior School District and recently retired after many years of service.
She was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Susan is survived by her husband, Thomas; children, Christine (Donald) Polkinghorne, Diana (Michael) Markee-O'Brien and Scott (Jill) Markee, all of Superior; three grandchildren, Kathryn, Dane and Matthew; sister, Jeanine (Tim) Carbon, Highbridge, Wis.; nephew, Ian (Nicole) Carbon, Ashland, Wis.; father-in-law, Kenneth Markee, Mellen, Wis.; three brothers-in-laws, Kenneth (Ardell) Markee, Colstrip, Mont., James Markee, Mellen, Wis. and Mark (Lori) Markee, Mosinee, Wis. and nephews and nieces, Kenneth, Adrian, Shannon and Marcus.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Susan was a beautiful, thoughtful person who always put others before herself. She loved her family very much and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 6, in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Ave., Superior with a Scripture service to be held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Cathedral of Christ the King Church and continue until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial with Rev. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Superior.
