Peter James Bucholdt, age 65 of Topsham, Maine passed away on Saturday evening, Feb. 4, 2012 after a courageous battle with non-hodgkins lymphoma and a cancerous brain tumor.
Peter James Bucholdt, age 65 of Topsham, Maine passed away on Saturday evening, Feb. 4, 2012 after a courageous battle with non-hodgkins lymphoma and a cancerous brain tumor.
Peter was born in Rice Lake, Wis. on June 8, 1946, the son of Edwin Bucholdt and the late Carnette (Taylor) Bucholdt of Gordon.
Peter graduated from Minong High School in 1964 and once the fishing and hunting seasons were complete, Peter joined the U.S. Navy in February 1965. Peter served during the Vietnam Conflict aboard the USS Roosevelt.
During a break in service, Peter worked for Boeing Aircraft in Washington and White Pine Copper Mine in the UP of Mich. He later rejoined the U.S. Navy in April of 1972 and retired at Brunswick Naval Air Station (MAU Squadron) on Feb. 29, 1988. During his time of service he was stationed at Willow Grove, Pa., Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich. and Pt. Magu, Calif. before going to Maine.
Peter was an avid sportsman and once he retired he was able to enjoy the beautiful state of Maine which included a 108 day stretch tenting at an undisclosed location in northern Maine fishing which was then immediately followed by an extended hunting trip. Due to his expertise in hunting, Peter participated in 14 moose hunting trips, of which two he was the primary permittee. He was also the subpermittee on his daughter Melissa's moose hunting trip as well as his wife Nancy's.
Peter was known for his charismatic personality and his willingness to help and care for others.
Peter is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Kamarainen) Bucholdt of 43 years, son Grant Jack Bucholdt of Raymond, Maine, daughter Melissa Emily (Bucholdt) Martin with grandchildren Taylor Elaine and Steven James Martin of Lisbon, Maine. Others survivors include his father, Edwin Bucholdt (104 yrs old); his brother Carl Bucholdt and friend Larry Dziekan of Metairie, La.; special cousin Kari Bucholdt of Gordon; uncle Oddie (Doc) and aunt Anna Bucholdt of Iowa; sister-in-laws Jeannie Perttu, Bergland, Mich. and Shirley (Ed) Strahs of Onalaska, Wis. Peter also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many military families and special friends who blessed his life.
Upon his passing, Peter's wish was to donate his body for education and science research which was coordinated through Science Care.
Even though Peter's life was too short, you would never know it by all of the stories he had to share. In honor of all those memories a Celebration of His Life was held on June 8th, 2012 at The American Legion in Topsham, Maine where people reminisced and shared their favorite stories of him.
