David Michael Smith, 23, of Superior died Sunday, July 22, 2012, as the result of an ATV accident in Amnicon Township.

David Michael Smith, 23, of Superior died Sunday, July 22, 2012, as the result of an ATV accident in Amnicon Township.

David was born on May 20, 1989, in Duluth, the son of Patricia (Kadlec) Zuck and Roger Smith.

He was a 2007 graduate of Superior High School where he ran Cross Country and Track and played on the Spartan hockey team. He graduated from UW-Stout in 2012, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction. At UW-Stout, he was also a member of the Track and Field team.

David was currently employed as a Field Engineer with the Jamar Company, where he had an internship last year. He was very proud to be working at this company with such a great group of people. He had also previously worked for the State of Wisconsin - Grain Inspection and Superior Water, Light and Power Company.

He enjoyed sports, especially softball, hockey and running and his favorite team, the Green Bay Packers. He loved spending time with his niece Eilie, who always put a smile on his face.

David is survived by his parents, Patty (Bill) Zuck of Superior and Roger (Grace Line) Smith of Poplar; sister, Elyssa Smith of Superior; step-brother Brian (Missy) Zuck of Esko; step-sister Jody (Josh) Orhn of Duluth; maternal grandmother, Rosemary Kadlec of Superior; nieces and nephews, Eilie, Hannah, Halle, Tyler and Easton; aunts and uncles, Lorie and Jim Crawford and their children Brian and Scott, who were like brothers to him, Judy Wesolowski, Janice and Al LeRoux, Shirley and Mark Knudtson, Jean and Scott Greenwood and Ron and Jill Smith; several cousins and many friends.

David was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Leonard Kadlec and paternal grandparents, Gene and Elma Smith who are now taking care of him in heaven.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, July 27, at 11:00 a.m. at Cathedral of Christ the King with Rev. Andrew P. Ricci as celebrant. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

If desired memorials in David's name may be made to the Superior High School Cross Country and Track Teams or to a charity of the donor's choice. Coach Conway touched David's Life and gave him his inspiration to run.

Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19th St., Superior, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Roger... I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I can't imagine what you are going through. I don't think I ever met him, but if he was anything like you, I am sure he was an amazing guy :) I will keep you and your family in my prayers. XoXo Karen Drain-Hansen
