Richard "Rick" C. Sampson II, formerly of Superior, passed away in Kenosha, Wis.

Richard "Rick" C. Sampson II, formerly of Superior, passed away in Kenosha, Wis.

He was born on Oct. 8, 1960, in Superior to Richard C. and Bernadine (Hudacek) Sampson.

Growing up in Superior and spending summer weekends in Lake Nebagamon, his friends & family knew him as one of the kindest, gentlest and friendliest people to ever touch their lives. His many interests included military history, travel, meeting new people, and visiting museums. He enjoyed photography and spending time with his family.

Graduating from Superior Senior High School in 1979, he attended UW-Superior and ultimately became an A&P Mechanic for Mesaba Airlines in Minneapolis and most recently at American Eagle Airlines at Chicago's O'Hare.

Rick was very proud of his 28 years in the United States Army National Guard. He served his country throughout the United States, as well as, Germany, Italy and Panama.

Rick was a devoted father even donating a kidney to his daughter when she was only three.

He is survived by his parents and two daughters, Katrina & Katlian Yerks, of Hutchinson, Minn.. He's also survived by his his brother, Robert P. Sampson, Robbinsdale, Minn.; two sisters, Ann (Curt) Smerud, New Hope, Minn., Jill (Daniel) Moots, Ham Lake, Minn.; nieces and nephews, C.J., Alyssa, and Annika Smerud, Aaron and Alexandra Moots plus many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rick was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Paul and Serafina Hudacek and his paternal grandparents, William and Agnes Sampson.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home with a scripture service scheduled for 6:30 p.m. that evening. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Rev. James Tobolski as celebrant.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
