Clinton J "Skip" Kolaski, 73, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012, in Superior after a lengthy fight with cancer.
He was born Oct. 30, 1938 in Superior.
Skip was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Kolaski.
He is survived by his son, Clinton John Kolaski of Hancock, Mich.
Skip was top of his class from grade school through high school, graduating from Superior Central High in 1957. His academic excellence continued at the university level having attended University of Wisconsin-Superior, Michigan Tech, Houghton, Mich. and University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was awarded the distinction of Sloan Scholar at Madison having studied under Rudin and Forelli. He graduated with the Ph.D. in theoretical mathematics.
His career in higher education culminated with teaching mathematics with tenure both at the University of Texas, San Antonio and later Professor Emeritus at the University of Minnesota, Duluth.
He particularly enjoyed cruising in his metallic blue 1973 Olds convertible with close friends, especially the late Doc. Bernhagen, with road trips to Colorado and Mexico.
A memorial gathering of friends is planned to celebrate Skip's life on June 8th 2012. For more information, contact (715) 374-3314.
