Geraldine Hakkila, 68, Iron, Minn, died Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minn. She was born on April 2, 1944 in Superior to Charles and Beatrice Kiggins.

Geraldine Hakkila, 68, Iron, Minn, died Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minn. She was born on April 2, 1944 in Superior to Charles and Beatrice Kiggins.

Geraldine married Dan Hakkila on Feb. 10, 1964 in Superior and celebrated 48 years of marriage.

She was employed as a general cleaner for Cleaning Specialists.

Geraldine was baptized Lutheran and attended Grace Baptist Church in Oulu as a child and her faith was very important to her.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, camping, dancing, fishing and watching old movies and westerns.

In addition to her husband Dan, Geraldine is survived by one daughter, Wendi (James Mundth) Merten, Blaine, Minn.; two sons, Marty Hakkila, Brule, Wis., Scott (Marilyn Kokal) Hakkila, Iron, Minn.; four grandchildren, Candice, Danni, Matthew and Craig; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Gloria (Fred) Hissa, Iron River; two brothers, Leland (Donna) Kiggins, Iron River, Larry Kiggins, Oulu, Wis. and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Maxine Speed and Darlene Tuura; and one brother, Odean Kiggins.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m until the 11:30 a.m. memorial service in Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home on Monday, May 21, with Rev. Sarah Kerkes of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, officiating.

Inurnment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
