Theron D. Kappes

Theron D. Kappes, 29, passed away on May 12th, 2012, the result of a tragic motorcycle accident. Theron was on his way to work and was struck by a deer. He was transported to Essentia Health-SMDC and was pronounced brain dead. His mother, Sharon, did the most compassionate thing a person can do and she agreed to Theron becoming an organ donor. Because of this heroic act, many other lives will be forever changed.

Theron was born on Christmas Day, 1982 to Tony and Sharon (Christianson) Kappes. He was their only child and the best Christmas present any parent could ask for. He was a true blessing.

Theron was raised in Virginia and graduated with a GED. He was a freckly-faced boy and he was told that each of his freckles was for his many girlfriends. He once wrote a story about why he loved his mother and it was published in the Mesabi Daily News.

As a child he enjoyed fishing, singing karaoke, and riding his BMX bicycle. His love for BMX bikes transformed into a love of motorcycles as an adult, although his biggest enjoyment as an adult was spending time with his son, Theron Junior (TJ).

Theron was a loving father and was raising his son as a single dad. His son was his pride and joy.

Theron was a member of Laborers Local since 2003. He was very proud to have worked for such companies as In-Line Construction, Mavo Systems, Lakehead Constructors, and Fieldlogic. Theron loved to work and he was very good at his job. Theron was currently employed as a laborer through the laborer's union.

Theron is survived by his 4 year old son, Theron Kappes Junior (TJ); his loving mother, Sharon Kappes; his maternal grandfather, Roy Christianson; numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives and many friends.

Theron was preceded in death by his father, Tony; his maternal grandmother, Bessie Christianson; and his paternal grandparents, Leonard and Karen Kappes.

Theron's family takes comfort in knowing that he lives on through the many lives he changed by being an organ donor.

Visitation begins at 12 Noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service on Friday, May 18, at the Range Funeral Home in Virginia, Minn. Rev. Donald C. Norr will officiate. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia, Minn. Arrangements are with Range Funeral Home in Virginia. Online guestbook at www.rangefuneralhomes.com.

Also as stated above, you don't know me but I just needed to write & say thank you for donating your precious son's organs. Through him life will continue and flourish. Our family received the precious gift of organ donation 5 years ago & the blessings that it has allowed our family are too tremendous to list. My heart breaks for the pain you are enduring. He was a very handsome young man & you can see from the reflection in his eyes his heart was made of gold. You & your grandson will be in my prayers for years to come. God bless you.

Sooooooo sorry about your loss! You don't know me, but I just couldn't help responding to your son's obituary. I can't even imagine what you must be going through right now, but I have two children, and know that without the Lord, I wouldn't be able to face tomorrow. My deepest condolences, and prayer for the strength to make it through this difficult time. And thank you for the brave sacrifice you made by donating his organs to others. Sue
