She was born on March 18, 1953.
Mary Kay has been an inspiration to everyone around her. Whether it was on a bowling alley with Special Olympics or on the manufacturing line at the Challenge Center or with her family at the cabin or a holiday dinner, her presence and personality were truly enjoyed. She will be remembered for her quick smile, her keen awareness to her surroundings and her ability to recognize everyone in her life. Having Mary Kay in our lives was a gift we will all cherish. We have all become better people because of her!
Mary Kay was preceded in death by her father, James Sauter; step-father Ray Matushak; grandparents Emil & Jennie Vucovich and Clarence and Marie Sauter; uncles, Fran Paquette, George Vukovich, Tom Sauter; aunt, Char Vukovich; and cousin Packy Paquette.
She is survived by her mother, Laraine Matushak of Superior; brothers, Tim (Nan) Sauter of Superior, Jeff (Donna) Sauter of Eau Claire, Wis. and Mark Sauter of Midland, Mich.; step-brothers, Steve (Kathie) Matushak and Brad (Barb) Matushak; uncles and aunts, Mary Paquette, Dan and Jean Vucovich, Dolores Sauter; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews as well as some of the best cousins (and their families) in the world!
The family wishes to share their sincere gratitude with all of the caregivers in Mary Kay's life. From the Northern Wisconsin Center in Chippewa Falls, Wis. to the Cypress House, Challenge Center and Golden Living Nursing Home in Superior. These dedicated people made a positive impact on Mary Kay's life. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that memorials be directed to Superior-Douglas County Special Olympics or to the Challenge Center Sensory Stimulation Program.
Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial, Friday, May 4, at Cathedral of Christ the King, Superior. Rev. Andrew Ricci will be the celebrant.
Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, is assisting the family with arrangements.
