Joan S. "Jay" Dhooge, 99, died Tuesday, April 03, 2012 at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth.
Joan S. "Jay" Dhooge, 99, died Tuesday, April 03, 2012 at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth.
She was born on March 5, 1913 in Superior to Jules and Emma (Letz) Bleyenberg and was a lifelong Superior resident.
Jay was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, it's Rug Ladies and the Ladies Belgian Club Auxiliary.
Jay will always be remembered as a person with a positive attitude, an ear to listen and loving, kind words to offer. Throughout her life, she took great pride in her garden and making her home inviting for family and friends.
Jay was preceded in death by her husband Arthur "Art" Dhooge in 2004; her parents; two sisters, Mary "Sis" Bleyenberg and Clementine Meyst and one brother, Francis Bleyenberg.
She is survived by two daughters, JoAnn (William) Dens, Barnum, Minn., Janet (Larry) Ledin, Superior; two sons, Jerry (Kay) Dhooge, Solon Springs, Dan (Mary) Dhooge, Lake Gogebic, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two nieces and three nephews. She is further survived by close neighbors and friends including Jeff Johnson and his late wife Mary.
Jay's family sends a special thank you to the staff of Stardusk Assisted Living, Solvay Hospice House, Arlene Gunderson of Indianhead Home Health Care and Randi of Home Instead, who all gave loving care in her last days.
Visitation will begin at 10 and continue until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday, April 10, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Don Kania as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
Pallbearers for the service will be Jay's grandchildren.
Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
