Ernest "Ernie" Nutt

Ernest "Ernie" Nutt, 80, Superior, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at the Villa-Marina Health Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 26, 1931, in Poplar to Edwin and Gilma (Barsness) Nutt.

Ernest "Ernie" Nutt, 80, Superior, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at the Villa-Marina Health Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 26, 1931, in Poplar to Edwin and Gilma (Barsness) Nutt.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Ernie married Josephine Burhans on April 14, 1956 in Mission Covenant Church in Poplar and celebrated 51 years of marriage before she passed away on Oct. 1, 2007.

He was employed as an operator for United States Steel for many years.

He was a member of the Carlton VFW where he served on the Honor Guard and Superior Moose 606. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandson Bill in previous years.

He owned and operated a dairy farm in Dewey. He always enjoyed helping family and friends wherever his efforts were needed.

Ernie is survived by three daughters, Becky Doherty, Superior, Mary (Pat) Remington, Superior, Evelyn (Kevin Daniels) Nutt, Blaine, Minn.; two sons, Clarence Nutt, Superior, George (Lori) Nutt, Pine City, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, Bill (Rhonda Birk) Nutt, Woodville, Wis., Michael (Hollie Helmbrecht) Nutt, Blaine, Minn., Alan (Erin) Nutt, N.C. and Afghanistan, Sally (Dave) Roos, Roberts, Wis, Brad Remington, Superior, Kevin Remington, Fla., Gina Remington, Hoyt Lakes, Minn., Amanda, Kaitlyn and Cody Nutt, all of Pine City, Minn.; many great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Nelson, Ashland, Wis.; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his wife Josie, Ernie was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally Ann Nutt; a son, Gordon Robert Nutt; a sister Evelyn Nutt and his parents.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, and will continue at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service on Friday, March 2, in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home.

I only knew Ernie for about 3 years, but he was a very kind gentleman. He will be missed by many people. My prayers go out to his dear family during this sad time. Karen Norberg Brooklyn Park, MN
