Marie Luella (Olson) Willoughby, 98, died peacefully on Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at the Northern Lights Health Center in Washburn, Wis. She was born Feb. 8, 1914 in Iron River, the daughter of Harry and Annie (Jacobson) Olson.

Marie Luella (Olson) Willoughby, 98, died peacefully on Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at the Northern Lights Health Center in Washburn, Wis. She was born Feb. 8, 1914 in Iron River, the daughter of Harry and Annie (Jacobson) Olson.

Marie spent her entire life in Iron River. She attended the Iron Lake one room elementary school and graduated from Iron River High School in 1932.

She was united in marriage to George Willoughby in 1934 in Superior. They had 59 years together before George died in May, 1984.

Marie worked hard as a homemaker, mother and grandmother and for several years as a waitress at the "Dining Room" and Rustic Roost in Iron River retiring at the age of 68.

She was a member of the Iron River Green Thumb Garden Club and the Iron River High School Alumni Association. She had been a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Iron River. Marie volunteered at the senior center in Iron River for many years before it closed.

She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, Spider Lake where she lived many years, playing bingo and taking long rides. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by two sons, James (Janice) Willoughby of Sioux Falls, SD and Jon (Judy) Willoughby of Lake Nebagamon; two daughters, Joanne (Chuck) Erickson of Eau Claire, Wis. and Jeanne (John) Joseph of Iron River; 11 grandchildren, Vince, Mark and Brock Willoughby, Mike and Chad Erickson, Leigh Lorge, Todd, Tim, and Jane Joseph and Jason and Jenna Willoughby; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Marvin Olson, a sister, Agnes Isaacson Sand and a granddaughter, Heather Willoughby.

Visitation will be at 1 until the 2 p.m. funeral service Saturday, Feb. 18, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Iron River with Pastor Kristina Jensen officiating. Burial will follow in the Iron River City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Iron River High School Alumni Association.

The Bratley Funeral Home in Washburn is handling the arrangements.
