Robert E. Mackie, 81, of Superior died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012.
Robert E. Mackie, 81, of Superior died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth.
He was born Sept. 11, 1930, in Superior, to Henry and Ingrid (Miller) Hautamaki.
Bob graduated from the former East High School in 1948. He served in the United States Air Force as a member of the 308th Bomber Wing serving as a tail gunner in a B-29 during the Korean War.
Bob married Delores Lehto on April 24, 1954, in Ironwood, Mich., and celebrated 57 years of marriage.
He was employed at Cargill Grain Elevator.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He loved bowling, trapping, running and gardening.
In addition to his wife Delores, Bob is survived by two sons, Kevin (Sheila) Mackie, Brule, and Kerry Mackie, Hawthorne; two daughters, Kim (David) Kulas, Superior, Karla (Roy) Langford, Poplar; 10 grandchildren, Tara, Jill, Jari, Sarah, Sophie, Maija, Paul, Alexandra, Daniel and Halie; one great-grandson, Adam; one sister, Daphne Hansen, Superior; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Henry Mackie, and one sister, Ruth Heino.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday, Jan. 7 at Zion Lutheran Church, Superior. Pastor Patrick Ziems will officiate.
