Jean M. Mertes, 57, South Range resident, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2011.
Jean M. Mertes, 57, South Range resident, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 5, 1954, to Joseph and Katherine (Peacock) Graskey.
Jean worked as an environment service worker for the Bayshore Nursing Home for many years.
She married Dale Mertes on April 17, 1993, and they recently celebrated 18 years of marriage.
Jean was a member of the Superior Moose Lodge 606.
She enjoyed bowling, her pets, going to the beach with her husband and dog, four-wheeling and horseshoes. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
Jean is survived by her husband, Dale; daughter, Jessie Mertes, South Range; three sisters, Betty Strak, of Florida, Joan (Jim) Swaab of Iowa and Janie Cahill of Florida; and her father-in-law, Dave Mertes, South Range.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Patty and Sherrie Remington, Mary Kirkwood and Julie Zawin, and brothers, Tom and Robert Graskey.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30 at Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Ave., Superior and continue until the 11:30 a.m. funeral service with Rev. Mark Holmes of Darrow Road Wesleyan Church officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Superior.
Pallbearers for the service will be Rusty Burkhart, David McConnell, Bobby Bordeau and Steve Kastern.
