Harriet M. Rakitnichan, 83, of Superior died Monday, Dec. 12, 2011.
Harriet M. Rakitnichan, 83, of Superior died Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, in Essentia-St. Mary’s, Duluth.
She was born in Duluth on April 24, 1928, to Almina (Houghtaling) and Henry Salby, and was a longtime Superior area resident.
Her work history includes Glassblock in Duluth, Ponderosa and Bonanza restaurants, and she was still working as a hostess at Grizzly’s.
Harriet was preceded in death by her husband John in 1986 and a son John Jr. in 1965.
She is survived by a son, Daniel (Laura) Rakitnichan of Plymouth, Minn.; two daughters; Kathleen (Jeffrey) Plesko of Melbourne, Fla., and Barbara (Steven) Anderson of Lake Nebagamon; her grandchildren Brad Plesko, Amy (Tim) Jacques, Jill (Thomas Brown) Anderson and Eric (Beka) Anderson; great-grandchildren, Austin, Madison and Conner; a brother, Henry (Marcella) Salby of Atlanta, Ga.; and a sister, Mary Hepfer of Inverness, Fla.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Holy Assumption Catholic Church with the Rev. Ronald Olson as celebrant. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday in the Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th St., and one hour prior to the Mass on Friday in the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
