Ruth E. Finn, 90, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family Dec. 11, 2011.
She was preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) Finn, and her parents Harry and Sarah Widdes. Ruth was born in Superior on Aug. 2, 1921, and was raised in Rice Lake, Wis. She graduated from Superior State Teachers College in 1942. She taught school in Dallas, West Bend, Neenah, Menasha and Superior in Wisconsin.
Ruth was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed by her sons and daughter-in-laws Michael (Debbie) Finn, Jeffrey (Bonnie) Finn; and daughter and son-in-law Cindy (Douglas) Kanter, all of Minnetonka, Minn.; grandchildren Andy and Libby Finn, Jodi Finn, Amy Finn, Steven Finn, Daniel Kanter and Jonathan Kanter; great-grandchildren Max Finn and David Finn. She is also survived by her sister Harriet Wolstan, Los Angeles, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law Skipper and Carole Mae Widdes, Rice Lake; brother Jerry Widdes Delhi, Iowa; sister-in-law Minnie Bergman, St. Louis Park, Minn.; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ruth will be remembered for her beautiful smile, loving nature, keen wit and sense of humor. She loved not only her family, but her friends from Superior and Duluth, and the friendships she cultivated upon her move to Knollwood Place. Her love of bridge, canasta, mahjong, trips to the casino and reading were activities that Ruth so enjoyed.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 at the Superior Hebrew Cemetery in Superior. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the donor’s choice.
