Lenus M. Olson, 87, longtime Superior area resident, formerly of Arnegard, N.D., died Saturday, April 30, 2011.
Lenus M. Olson, 87, longtime Superior area resident, formerly of Arnegard, N.D., died Saturday, April 30, 2011, at St. Mary’s Essentia Health Hospice, Superior.
He was born on Feb. 19, 1924, in Tacoma, Wash., the son of John and Minnie (Mikkelson) Olson.
Lenus served his country in the United States Navy during WWII as a Gunners Mate 3rd Class in the American, European and Asian Theatres.
Lenus was employed by Globe Elevator in Superior as an assistant superintendent.
He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church; a lifelong member of the Henry S. Blomberg VFW Post 847; and a member of the American Legion.
Lenus is survived by one stepson, Glenn Fisketjon, Greely, Colo.; one stepdaughter, Ellamae (Nick) Pasternak, Grenora, N.D.; two step daughters-in-law, Geraldine Sabin and Helen Fisketjon, both of Superior; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and eight great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; his parents, John and Minnie Olson; one brother; one sister; four children; one niece and one nephew.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 4 in Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. Fifth St., Superior.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 5 at the Parkview Cemetery in Hawthorne with Pastor Sarah Kerkes of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church officiating.
Military honors will be accorded by the Richard I Bong, American Legion Post 435 Honor Guard.
The family would like to thank St. Mary’s Essentia Health Hospice, Superior and the nursing staff for the care they gave Lenus during his stay there.
Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

I just spoke with Gerry. She told me Lenus passed away. I am glad he did not suffer long. I just loved Uncle Lenus. He had a great sense of humor. I will miss him. My condolences to Ellamae, Glenn, Gerry and families. I love you all very much. Jean Florek05/02/2011 1:17 PM
