She was born in Fort William (now Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada). In 1952, she married Oliver Walker and movied to 1121 Weeks Ave, in Superior where she lived for more than 50 years. Mamie was an excellent seamstress who worked at many local shops, well into her 70s, and who made most of her own clothes. She often visited family in Canada and loved venturing anywhere, at home in the States, Canada or abroad. She loved life, family and was especially fond of “Moses” her cat. Mae loved the arts, especially music and ceramic crafts.
She is survived by two sisters Laila Kantola and Bertha Wicklund, both of Thunder Bay; four nieces, Elsie (Bud) Doley, Glenna (Earl) Hunt, Alison (Greg) Allam, Alexis (Kevin) Leveque; eight nephews Arne (Louise) Talvitie, Ken (Brenda), Leonard, Roy, Andrew (Tracey), and John (Suzanne) Kantola, Earl and Kevin (Susan) Wicklund; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews, all in Canada, and many cousins in the United States. Mamie was wonderfully caring of her many nieces and nephews by whom she is fondly remembered.
Mamie was predeceased by her husband Oliver Walker (1974), her parents Serafina and Anton Pokki (1964/1967), a brother Uuno Pokki (1974) and four sisters -- Irene Talvitie (2000), Tekla (1920), Vilna Vienno (1927), and Terttu Garland (2003). Also predeceasing her was her dear cousin and close friend, Ella Hill (2007).
Visitation will begin at 12 noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church, 2022 East 2nd Street, Superior 54880, with Pastor Patrick Ziems, officiating. Burial will be in the Nemadji Cemetery.

My condolences to Mamies family and friends. She was a cherished friend of my mom, Betty White. Mamie made a black skirt for me once....that I still have. :) Her own personalized label reminds me of her each time I look at it. And I do remember she loved her cat!
