Samuel “Chip” W. Hines Jr., 63, of Cumberland died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at his home.
Samuel “Chip” W. Hines Jr., 63, of Cumberland died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at his home.
He was born Sept. 4, 1946, in Cumberland, Wis. to Samuel and Margaret (Barry) Hines. Chip graduated from Cumberland High School in 1965 and attended University of Wisconsin-Barron County Campus.
Chip served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1968 with the Military Police guarding the Spandau prison during the cold war. After his military service, Chip returned to Cumberland to serve as a member of the Cumberland Police Department for over 25 years until his retirement in 2000.
Chip was married in Rice Lake on Oct. 7, 1978, to Barbara Schnacky.
Second only to his love of family and friends, Chip loved the outdoors and hunting, fishing and boating were his favorites. He shared this passion with his wife, sons and all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hines of Cumberland; two sons, Samuel (Christine) Hines of Rice Lake and Benjamin Hines of Cumberland; his mother, Peg Hines of Cumberland; four grandchildren, Camryn, Conner, Julia and Will; one brother, William (Linda) Hines of Superior; one sister, Patricia Foss of Cumberland and many nieces and nephews.
Chip was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Hines, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Skinner Funeral Home, Cumberland, with Rev. Annie Tricker officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Anderson-Thomson Post 98 American Legion, Cumberland. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to service on Friday at the funeral home, www.skinnerfh.com, 800-822-8535.
