William H. Hoffer Sr.

William H. Hoffer Sr., 81, of Superior, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center.

William H. Hoffer Sr., 81, of Superior, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center.

William was born in Superior on Nov. 19, 1927, to Irja (Salminan) and William B. Hoffer.

Bill served his country during WWII as a corporal in the Army. Bill retired as superintendent from ADM Grain Elevators after 41 years.

He was a member of the Local Grain Millers Union, Elks Lodge 403, V.F.W. and past president of the GEAPS Organization.

Bill was an avid bowler, golfer, hunter and trap shooter, earning many medals throughout the years. His favorite pastime was woodworking, giving away many lawn ornaments he had made.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Hoffer; first wife, Ruth (Olson) Hoffer; second wife, Glee (Burnett) Hoffer; and two sisters, Nancy and Marie.

Bill is survived by his two children and their spouses, William H. and Debi Hoffer, Jr. of Lake Nebagamon and Jane and Richard Moen of Superior; one Aunt, Lillian Burnett of Virginia, Minn.; grandchildren, William H. (Paula) Hoffer III of Hawthorne, Heidi (Doug) Pearson of Lake Nebagamon, Jeremy Rundgren of Superior, Kim Hoffer of Australia, Lindsay Hoffer of Decatur, Ill., and Allison Hoffer of London, Eng.; great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Drew, Reese and Dylan; two step-children and their families, John (Patty) Burnett and Joni (Trevor) Ball of Virginia, Minn.; and step-grandchildren, April (Shawn) Metzger of Fairbault, Minn., Autumn Metzger, Washington, Chad, Travis and Tianna Burnett of Virginia.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25, until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th St. Rev. Lincoln Fry, pastor of Apostolic Faith Assembly, will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be William Hoffer III, Jeremy Rundgren, Doug Pearson, Bill Marsh, Dan Egnash and Carl Winek. Honorary pallbearer will be Robert Meteraud.

Our family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Northern Residence in Hawthorne, where he resided for the last three years, for their loving care of our father.
