Gary Palmer, 44, lifelong Superior area resident died Friday, April 3, 2009, at Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Superior on March 28, 1965, the son of James and Pauline Palmer.
Gary was employed as a machinist by Northern Engineering and Fraser Shipyards for more than 20 years. He was a member of the IAM, Local 1502.
Gary is survived by his mother, Pauline (Paula) Palmer; daughters, Teri Quinn (Erik Quinn) and her family: Camille, Bill, Zack and Kaitlin Holden; Jennifer Palmer (Josh Friborg) and her family: Katie, Tom, Ryan and Paige Berger; sister, Michelle (Bill) Sharpe; brothers, Mark Palmer and Scott (Jodi) Palmer; Gary’s two beautiful grandchildren, Lily Quinn and Nolan Friborg; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father James “Jimbo” Palmer on June 7, 2008, and his grandparents Ralph and Honora Palmer and Paul and Minnie Mielke
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 7 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and continue until the 11 a.m. Memorial Mass with Rev. Father James Tobolski.
Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery, Superior.
The family would like to thank St. Mary’s hospital, St. Luke’s hospital, The University of Minnesota, Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center and all the doctors, nurses and staff for everything that they have done for Gary.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Gary’s name to the American Cancer Society, 130 West Superior Street, LL2, Suite 200, Duluth, Minnesota, 55802.
The Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. Fifth St., Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
