Those going to see the film “Wings” in 1927 could buy a booklet called “The Filming of An Epic” describing how World War I air battles were brought to the screen. The film and booklet were written by John Monk Saunders, who was born in Hinckley. “Wings” and the recent film, “The Artist,” are the only silent films to win best picture honors at the Academy Awards.
