My uncle Lloyd was a positive, solid influence on my life. He always seemed happy to be outside doing stuff, like boating or fishing, or chatting on the shore, or jogging, and he always seemed happy to see us. He was an upbeat gentleman who was happy to help you out, including making fun of you when you needed that. I remember once (some years ago) when I was working in Chicago and we said, "Gosh, can we go canoeing somewhere this weekend?". I called up Uncle Lloyd at around 5:30 PM on Friday. He said, "Sure, come on up. We will get you going.". We pulled in to his driveway around 3:30 in the morning, and by 8 AM he had us full of pancakes and on the river (a beautiful 25 mile or so trip, though I don't remember which river) in a canoe with enough gear for an overnight and a case of beer. I always enjoyed listening to him talk about being a doctor in Rice Lake, and being with him and his family. I always felt that whatever happened, he would just laugh and help you figure out the next step. Lloyd Cotts will be missed.
