Memories of mother’s patriotism make 4th the best holiday

July 4 is the best holiday of the year, not that I got all that excited about it as a kid. Yes, there were the fireworks we watched from the front of our house near North 24th Street and Hammond Avenue in Superior — the sparklers and the family picnics.
