Anyone who thinks it "is their choice to not wear a seat belt" is an idiot and obviously needs laws to help keep them alive. maybe you should jump out of an airplane without a parachute while ur at it. The state and the DMV have an obligation to help keep people safe and if it takes a law to make people more safe, then so be it. And do not forget, you dont have any right to drive a vehicle. You actually have to work for it and pay to drive a vehicle. it is a privilage and part of that privilage now is to wear your seat belt. Quit crying about it.

Elizabeth C.: School buses are designed to protect our children without the use of seat belts with a concept called compartmentalization. Use of seat belts on long buses would actually be dangerous because of the way buses are designed. (Short buses do actually have seat belts, as their design is different than long buses.)

So how many of our children and grandchildren ride schoolbusses every day without seatbelts or airbags for protection. Seatbelts should be a personal choice.

I agree that this wouldn't have had a chance passing into law if it had not been piggybacked onto funding for roads. I don't believe it should be a law! It should be my choice, plain and simple.

Well you can thank the same morons that wont let you smoke in a bar for this too. Motorcyclists ride with no helmet with immunity. Just check out all the j-walkers at the courthouse crossing Hammond at 8 AM in the morning.

jo - you are arrogant. Police officers really have more to do than pull you over and hassle you for no reason. They really DO care about your safety. If you are wearing your seat belt, you really have no worries, right? Follow the LAW and you will be fine (and alive). As for the Mayor running a stop sign - you've never done it? We all have. But I am very certain he had his seat belt on.

The state passed this law because they got millions and millions of $ for highway repair on the promise they pass this law. Plain and simple, if your mad get mad at Madison not the cops.

I hope that this will apply to every one, including certain people who are in city and county positions. A certain mayor ran the stop sign at 21st and Hill Avenue last week. I know this, because had I not been paying attention, I would have been a goner. Was he wearing his seat belt? I think not. Respectfully yours, Mary, Superior, Wisconsin
