I still miss her. It’s been over a year since she’s been gone for real and the emotions surrounding the loss have become less intense. Friends told me this would happen; time is the universal healer. Still, I miss her every day.

I grew up watching Greg, Marsha, Peter, Jan, Bobby and Cindy. Like the rest of the Brady Bunch generation, I now find I myself at an awkward age: too old to be young and too young to be old. I guess you could say I’m stuck somewhere in the middle. The middle of what I’m not sure. It can’t be middle age. Can it?

Sunshine streams in the windows. Birds chirp and warble happy morning hellos to each other and anyone who will listen, although I am oblivious to their greetings. The alarm clock sounds and from somewhere outside the edges of my awareness I hear a young voice calling, “Mom!”
