The University of Wisconsin-Superior volleyball team had victory snatched from its hands Wednesday night in a 3-2 loss at the College of St. Scholastica.
The Yellowajckets were leading the match 2-1 and sitting on match point in the fourth game. But the Saints rallied from a 24-21 deficit to eventually win 27-25 and even the match at 2-2. CSS then went on to win game five 15-10.
Kitty Tynen had a big night for UWS with 24 kills and 28 digs, both match highs.
Also for the Yellowajckets, Alissa Autio had 14 kills, Brooke Vonasek had 12 and Jessica Zimmerman had 11. For the match, UWS had 69 kills and an attack percentage of .279.
Keely Deadrick led Superior on offense with a season-high 65 assists, and on defense Lauren Peterson had 18 digs, Zimmerman had 15 and Chelsey Walerius added 12. Vonasek also had three of the Yellowjackets’ six blocks.
UWS won the first game 25-15, lost the second 26-24 and won the third 25-15.
For the Saints, Kortney Morrin finished with 21 kills and 18 digs; Kariana DeYoung had 13 kills; Danielle Benusa had 21 digs; Taylor Orhn added seven kills and 14 digs; and Erika Birkeland dished out 28 assists.
UWS will wrap up its season Saturday at the Gustavus Adolphus Triangular in St. Peter, Minn., and attempt to snap a three-match losing streak
The Yellowjackets play the host Gusties at 12:30 p.m. and Buena Vista University at 2:30 p.m.
