The Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Heart & Vascular Center received national recognition for providing top-quality heart attack care.
St. Mary’s is one of only 197 hospitals across the country to receive the Platinum Performance Achievement Award from the National Cardiovascular Data Registry.
“This is quite an achievement,” said Dr. Lisa Abrahams, Essentia Health interventional cardiologist and director of quality for the Heart & Vascular Center in Duluth. “This is earned by consistently providing the highest quality heart attack care as defined by the American College of Cardiology Foundation and the American Heart Association.”
The award recognizes St. Mary’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients. To receive the award, hospitals must follow specific treatment guidelines and demonstrate they met certain performance standards 90 percent of the time over a two-year period.
St. Mary’s participates in the National Cardiovascular Data Registry by tracking statistical information related to all heart attack care, including medication use and how long it takes to open a blocked blood vessel from the start of a heart attack to ensure the best patient care.
