The men’s soccer teams from the University of Wisconsin-Superior and the College of St. Scholastica battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie Tuesday night before a crowd of 327 at Ordean Stadium.
The tie improves the Yellowjackets to 4-1-2 against the Saints in the last seven games and snaps the Saints’ 10-game winning streak.
The Yellowjackets struck first when Brian Chapman scored from 10 yards out off a corner kick in the 25th minute. Alberto Rivero-Garcia and Brian Grand were credited with assists.
The Saints tied the game in the 67th minute when Sean Morgan scored on a breakaway by chipping the ball over UWS keeper Matt Elder.
UWS (8-6-3) outshot St. Scholastica (11-2-3) in the nonconference game 17-16.
The Saints’ Adam Hewitt made five saves, while Matt Elder stopped six shots for the Yellowjackets.
Both teams had two shots in the first overtime. The second overtime was much of the same, although the Saints had an opportunity on a corner kick but were unable to convert.
Saints' Andrew Jenkins and Superior's Elder both received yellow cards late in the second overtime. Overall, there were seven yellow cards handed out.
UWS hosts Finlandia at 4 p.m. Saturday. CSS hosts UM-Morris on Friday and Crown College Saturday.
