As a teen, it’s always hard to see summer end, but there’s a lot to look forward to in the upcoming school year. We’re looking forward to reconnecting with friends and going to dance line.
One thing we’re not looking forward to this year, seeing our friends tempted into using new tobacco products that are flavored and packaged like candy.
It’s harder than ever to stay tobacco-free with so many cheap tobacco products that feature flavors like strawberry, grape, and berry blast. There is no doubt that these flavors and flashy packages target kids and teens like us.
Maybe the worst example of these products is the flavored chewing tobacco. We don’t like when we see our friends chewing and spitting into a cup. It’s disgusting. Sure, it might smell like minty gum but we know it could give our friends a “hairy tongue.” We’re afraid our little brothers will be tempted to use it.
Parents and teachers should know that these products exist and other teens should know that despite how fun and harmless they might look, they aren’t a safe alternative to traditional tobacco products.
Tobacco in any form, whether it’s flavored or unflavored, smoked or chewed, is not safe and can lead to a lifetime addiction.
