A team of automotive advisers hosts an open house Friday at Five Star Automotive. The auto shop next to O’Reilly’s opened May 6 at 2607 Tower Ave. The focus of the new business, said owner Jason Jauhola, is to take care of customers properly.
“Honest and professional service at a fair price,” he said. “Not just selling things to hit quotas.”
Five Star Automotive offers customers more than 120 years of combined experience in the auto industry from six Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)- certified technicians.
“I wanted to work in a shop that was honest,” said lead technician Rick Smith. “Sometimes it’s as simple as trying to go the actual mile to get the part today instead of telling them ‘We can’t get it today, we’ll fix it tomorrow.’”
Whether it’s an oil change or major engine repair, the technicians at Five Star are living up to the shop name.
“I like it; I like it a lot,” said Tom Mullvain of Gordon. “I trust them.”
The Gordon man has had his last three oil changes done at the new business.
“It’s quick and convenient for me,” Mullvain said, with his Friday appointment lasting about half an hour.
Corrine Foote of Superior was at the shop for an oil change, as well.
“They seem very honest, nice,” she said. “I thought I’d give them a try.” She’s heard good things about the business.
“My daughter has brought her car here,” Foote said. “They’ve treated her real fair.”
People often dread a trip to the auto shop, Jauhola said. He hopes to erase that fear at Five Star.
“We’re not salespeople, we’re advisers,” he said, and they plan to put the human factor back into the business. If customers want, technicians will take them under the hood to show them what work needs to be done, what work could wait a while and whether an odd noise is even an issue. Communication is key, Jauhola said.
“I want people to trust me when they come in to take care of their needs,” he said.
Five Star Automotive offers a wide array of services, from tire repair to engine overhauls, as well as all the maintenance in between. The shop uses Mobil products, including Mobil 1 synthetic, although customers can always request Superior’s own AMSOIL. In addition, technicians use Wynn’s professional products, which run the gamut from additives and antifreeze to cooling and brake fluids. The waiting room provides free Wi-Fi, coffee, water and cable TV. Shuttle service is available within five miles of the shop and there’s a drop box for customers to leave their keys if they need to leave their vehicle outside of normal shop hours.
Friday’s open house runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The public is invited to stop by for free hot dogs, giveaways, raffle drawings and a live radio station broadcast.
“Get to know the honest people at the new shop on the block,” Jauhola said.
