Scott Walker is the worst governor Wisconsin ever had in my opinion. He is destroying the state for personal gain. The two biggest problems are the Penokee mine and wolf hunt.
Water is life. It is not a renewable resource. This mine lost the vote and went away before Walker won his recall election and now it is back full force. It is a political payback for lobbyists.
Walker allowed mining laws to be gutted to create the largest proposed open-pit iron ore mine in the world — 4½ miles long, 1.5 miles wide and up 1,000 feet deep. Mining could go on for up to 35 years, but it will pollute for many more decades. Open pit iron sulfide mines produce arsenic, acid and other carcinogens.
We need water to live. We are running out of fresh water. The Penokee watershed is a huge source of water for many communities. It is the watershed for Lake Superior, the world’s largest freshwater lake.
G-Tac put armed militia style guards with assault rifles at the mine site and sold it to the public as necessary to protect from mine opponents, and Walker knew about it, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Meanwhile, grandmothers are being arrested in Madison for singing songs of solidarity.
On the wolf hunt: Wolves are symbols of wilderness, and they are self-regulating. The hunt is political payback for Walker’s election. It is politically-driven management of wolves by and for hunting and farming lobbyists. The biologists are gone from the DNR wolf committee, replaced by hunters and farmers.
Wolves need the pack to hunt. When you shoot wolves and disperse the pack, they become dysfunctional and go after easy prey, which is found on farms.
There are laws in place already to trap problem wolves. There is no need to go hunting for them. Money — from tags and licenses — is perpetuating the myth of wolf overpopulation. It is the greed machine and it’s happening all over the country.
Wildlife does not exist for hunters to kill. When did hunting go from food gathering to thrill killing? What a pitiful reflection of our violent society.
Wouldn’t it be great to return Wisconsin to a progressive, conservationist state like it was before Walker?
