Brittany Oliver wanted to open a business that was the kind of place she would like to go.
And tonight, she’s doing just that.
The Ugly Stick Saloon opens at 8 p.m., offering a new dance venue in Superior’s Billings Park neighborhood.
“I don’t want to go somewhere and just hear all dance, or just hear all country or just rock,” Oliver said.
Oliver is planning a variety of music to suit a lot of tastes.
For customers, she said there will be bar games and drink specials during the week
“They can expect a friendly staff with lots of personality, good dance music, and to be able to be themselves,” Oliver said.
Nine wait staff and bartenders will attend to the needs of customers and a few DJs will provide the music.
In some ways, Oliver said the Ugly Stick Saloon will be similar to other night clubs she’s managed in North Carolina. There, she said they were able to have an outdoor area in the back with live bands.
While she is planning to have live entertainment on special occasions, she said she won’t have an outdoor venue.
Adjacent to the Shack Restaurant, Oliver said the plaza creates an area where people can make an evening of it — dining at the Shack, then heading to the Ugly Stick Saloon to dance, relax and play bar games.
“I like the location because it is so close to the (Bong) Bridge,” Oliver said.
“It’ll be a comfortable place,” Oliver said. The kind of place where people will be greeted by an enthusiastic and talented staff, she said.
After tonight’s opening, the Ugly Stick Saloon opens at 4 p.m. until bar close Tuesday-Saturday.
There is no cover charge.
