September is once again Juror Appreciation Month in Wisconsin. The purpose is to express appreciation to those citizens who have performed jury duty while protecting the constitutional rights of all people.
Quite simply, the right to a trial by jury is one of the core values of our democracy.
Other than voting or holding political office, serving on a jury is one of the few ways in which ordinary citizens in our community can participate directly in our democracy.
During the past year, many Douglas County residents were summoned to jury duty locally.
We thank these jurors for their commitment to our local system of justice.
America’s juries are the cornerstone of our democracy. They fairly and impartially make difficult decisions under difficult circumstances. Without a healthy justice system, this community would not be the wonderful place that it is to work and live.
Thank you jurors — past and future — for your continued commitment to Douglas County and our local justice system.
