This year’s track champions at the AMSOIL Speedway were named Friday night in Superior.
A total of 109 cars turned out for the night of racing, which included 29 late models for the Blaine Brothers WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series.
Feature action began with the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds. Skeeter Estey took the lead with nine laps left and kept in front to the checkered flag for his third feature win of the season. Cody Wolkowski, who had started in tenth, raced his way into second at the checkered flag, which was good enough to give him the 2013 Midwest modified track championship.
Next up were the WISSOTA Super Stocks. Andy Grymala took the lead from the pole and held it through three caution flags to take his first feature win of the season at AMSOIL Speedway.
Defending champion Scott Lawrence suffered a flat tire during the race but was able to make it up to seventh at the finish. He came up short of defending his title, however, as Curt Myers placed fifth and claimed the championship by two points.
In late model action, Chad Mahder was able to get past Darrell Nelson after a late restart in the 40-lap Challenge Series race. He pulled away for his first ever Challenge Series feature win, but Nelson won the late model track championship with a second-place finish.
Deven VanHouse started in seventh in the modified feature but went on to take the checkered flag. Nelson finished fifth after starting 19th of 19 cars to win 2013 track championship in the modifieds as well.
The evening’s finale was a 15-lap pure stocks feature. It took Mike Blevins until the halfway mark to take over the lead, but he was able to run away and hide for his seventh feature win at the speedway and the 2013 pure stocks track championship.
The racing season at the AMSOIL Speedway will wrap up with the Northern Nationals on Sept. 6-7.
