A Shell Lake man will spend 10 days in jail for hitting a 2-year-old with a plastic golf club.
Kyle Anthony Fornengo, 19, pleaded guilty in Douglas County Circuit Court on Aug. 9 to amended misdemeanor counts of battery and bail jumping.
He was sentenced to two years of probation concurrent and 10 days in jail with Huber work release granted. Fornengo also was ordered to maintain absolute sobriety, attend group counseling for physical violence and obtain and maintain half-time employment.
The Shell Lake man can serve the jail sentence in another county.
Fornengo hit a 2-year-old boy with a plastic golf club hard enough to leave a bruise and welt on May 1 in the town of Amnicon, according to the criminal complaint. In his statement, Fornengo indicated that the 2-year-old and his brother were hitting each other with the golf clubs and Fornengo told them to stop. They didn’t, and the 2-year-old hit Fornengo on the nose with a club.
The Shell Lake man went to spank the child but missed and hit him on the leg.
