SHS soccer team wins opener; girls tennis team falls
The Superior High School boys soccer team opened the 2013 season with a 3-1 win at Spooner Tuesday evening.
Senior Felix Leck scored two of the Spartans’ goals, at 15:15 and 17:35 of the first period.
Noah Peterson gave Superior a 3-0 lead around 12 minutes later.
Bryce Sohn scored Spooner’s goal on a penalty kick at 34:59 of the second half.
Junior Conner Gray finished with nine saves for the Spartans, who attempted 15 shots on the Spooner goal.
“We played well and got a solid effort from everyone on the team,” SHS coach Jack Hajewski said. “We played better in the second half, moved the ball well and got a great game from Conner.”
The Spartans host Providence Academy at 2 p.m. Saturday and play at Cloquet at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Spooner hosted Barron on Thursday.
