SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) — A 14-year-old boy accused of helping his friend kill the friend's great-grandmother faces sentencing in Sheboygan County.
A judge will determine a parole date for 14-year-old Nathan Paape when he's sentenced Tuesday. Paape was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide, but he can't be sentenced to life in prison without parole because of his age.
Prosecutors say Paape and 14-year-old Antonio Barbeau broke into Barbara Olson's home in Sheboygan Falls last year to rob her and then killed her with a hammer and a hatchet. The 78-year-old victim is Barbeau's great-grandmother.
During his trial, Paape testified he struck Olson twice with a hammer out of fear Barbeau would turn on him. Barbeau was sentenced Monday to life in prison with a chance at parole at age 50.
